May today we remember the fundamental value of respect for religious difference and the loss that comes from believing violence can resolve conflict from past or present. May we look at the people of the world not as faceless categories based on faith, race, national origin or political affiliation, but as individuals worthy of life and human dignity. That, I believe, is how we hope the world will view us, as Americans.
